Once upon a time ...

Milou was born from a love story — a love for children, for beautiful objects, and for the quiet magic of rattan.

I’m Anna, a French designer who grew up in Paris in a family where art, culture, and craftsmanship were part of everyday life. After studying set design in London and interior architecture in Florence, life took me to Jordan, Tunisia, and finally Indonesia.
In Tunisia, the very first seeds of Milou were planted.
The project paused during Covid — but not the dream. Some dreams simply wait for the right moment.
When my family moved to Indonesia in 2022, the home of rattan and its finest artisans, Milou finally came to life.

In 2024, I met Tian.
He grew up near Lake Toba in Sumatra, studied finance, lived many years in the UK, and returned to Indonesia after a deeply personal chapter. When we met, Milou suddenly became bigger, clearer, and more meaningful. Together, we embodied two worlds — French design heritage and Indonesian craftsmanship — working hand in hand.

Milou became a dialogue: between cultures, between past and present, between childhood imagination and artisanal know-how.

Our philosophy

Rattan holds a very special place in Indonesian heritage. For generations, artisans have woven it into objects that carry stories — stories of nature, community, and tradition.
At Milou, we want our pieces to honor that heritage: smooth, safe, beautifully crafted, and respectful of the people who make them.

Milou is our way of giving voice to Indonesian artisans, celebrating their mastery, and creating objects that feel warm, timeless, and meaningful in a child’s world.

For us, good design is simple, honest, and created with love.

Milou is also an educational and cultural bridge — between France and Indonesia, between craftsmanship and childhood, between imagination and heritage. In 2025, our work received official recognition as part of the 75th anniversary of France–Indonesia diplomatic relations.

And in 2026 we will launch a cultural and educational project at Kinspace, built around our children’s book Woven Worlds, written in collaboration with Kinderkloud. ( put a link ).

Today, Milou continues this connection through immersive installations, creative workshops, and hands-on experiences that nurture curiosity, honor craftsmanship, and build bridges between cultures and generations.Because every object carries a story. And Milou is here to tell those stories — softly, honestly, and with heart

«  Rattan holds a very important place in indonesian heritage. For centuries, artisans have shaped it into objects that connect us both to our natural environment and to our traditions.” — Tian ( extract article : Le Petit Journal 01 /12/2025)

“For us, Milou is not just furniture: it is also a way to give artisans a voice. Their work deserves to be seen, recognized, and celebrated in Indonesia and around the world.” — Tian ( extract article: Le Petit Journal 01 /12/ 2025)

It is a great joy to see a new generation of Indonesians emerging—proud of their country’s cultural history and eager to carry these traditions into the 21st century, passing this heritage on to young people in a modern and playful way.” — Anna
